After Gray's Papaya we hopped back on the subway for the jaunt down to catch the
Staten Island Ferry.The ferry is free and runs every 30 minutes.You do have to disembark on Staten Island,but you can turn around and get right back on easily.
We got a great view of Lady Liberty as the sun went down.
The wind was fierce and freezing!
We braved the cold as long as we liked andthen enjoyed the view from inside the cabin.

We decided to stroll up Fifth Ave. I have little knowledge of and zero care for designer anything.
I think the expense is a waste and Coach anything is ugly. But FAO Schwartz was a must for one reason only.
The Big piano!
Another movie reference of course.
I needed to reenact the scene from the movie
Big.
The littles have no idea about the movie reference but enjoyed the experience nonetheless.
How could you not?
It's a giant piano!
I LOVED it!
Even got Brent to participate.
We closed that place down.
My kids showed their true raised-to-be-thrifty souls while browsing there.
I was admiring an adorable little stuffed penguin until
I noticed the price tag said it was $300.
For that I could get a real penguin.
The kids couldn't believe it and loudly proclaimed their disbelief
as to how any toy could cost that much.
They have very collectable items apparently.
Note to self:
Teach kids to scoff quietly and express disdain
for all things over-priced under their breath
until outside of earshot.
One can be principled, thrifty, and polite.
Class doesn't cost a dime.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped in to
Grand Central station and found the whisper walls.
You stand on opposite sides and the curve of the ceiling allows you
to hear the other person, even a whisper.
It was so fun.
Easy way to fit a science lesson in while walking the streets of NYC.
